Sony is one of the top selling notebook manufacturers in the market today. With notebooks out pacing desktop sales the mid range notebook is a highly competitive market. The economy is slowing and we're seeing stiff competition for consumers. It may be the time to strike but which notebook is right for you? I've got my hands on the Sony VAIO VGN-FZ240N/B 15.4″ Laptop and I'm going to let you know what its load with and what you can expect out of it. I'll start with some of the basics.

Hardware:

Imaging: Integrated Web Cam

Processor: 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7250

Storage: 250 GB hard drive (Serial ATA)

RAM: 2 GB RAM (expandable up to 4GB of RAM)

Optical Drive: A CD R/RW with integrated DVD +/- R RW dual layer DVD burner

OS: Windows Vista Business

Weight: 5.75 lbs

This is a good midrange entry from Sony. I like that the body is made of a Magnesium alloy, it really feels sturdy to the touch and stays very cool. It is fairly light weight for a 15″ notebook and has a good low profile. The battery life however seems to be about average.

The good news though is that it is a fairly powerful notebook. The 2.0ghz T7250 is a great processor and enables the user to do a great deal of multitasking. The video card is integrated and derives it's video memory from the system memory, so the 2GB of RAM gets a little stretched. You'll be able to play medium intensity games, but don't expect to crank up the graphics to 11 and see smooth rendering. Though since it is a mid range notebook I hope that no one intends on doing that anyway.

The storage space is good, you can get about as many songs and movies as I would expect you would need at one time on the 250GB drive. That being said I would immediately clear out much of Sony's preinstalled trial ware. Much of it runs in the system tray or background and slows things down. Many of the programs don't even offer much that isn't already included in Windows Vista to begin with. It is just a nuisance and Sony is notorious for it.

The connectivity is standard and I see everything I expected. I think that it is clear that Sony was designing a very mobile device but trying to inject a little more power. I think they've succeeded; this notebook remains mobile but has a great processor and large hard drive. This is almost the perfect notebook. This price is a little high but that's how Sony rolls. Unlike Apple however Sony will occasionally issue price reductions, so I would keep an eye on this one and look for it to dip in the summer when the market slows and the stimulus checks start to roll in.

So you are thinking about getting a laptop. What are you getting your laptop for…is it going to be your main PC, a 2nd computer or just something you want to travel with or be able to move anywhere. Well you if you just need that you can move wherever then a Netbook may be your best bet!

I have had my Asus 1005ha-p for 8 months and really haven't had any problems. I absolutely love it. I used to have a Toshiba laptop that weight about 6 or 7 lbs and I felt like I was lugging something much heavier so I wouldn't like to just carry it around or move around. I decided to get rid of that go with the Asus and I have been impressed. I can easily move its near 3lb (probably around 3.2 with ac adapter) weight around with ease and forget I even have it sometimes. The 10 hour battery charge makes this even easier because I really don't even need the ac adapter.

Ok now you are thinking….10 hours…whoa! Well hold your horses. That is 10 hours (possibly 11 if you bring down the graphics) if you tone everything down and run it at its lowest processor speed and have WIFI up. Well most people get the Netbook to use the Wifi so you looking at more of around 7.5 hours. That is still pretty amazing and allows you to forget the a/c adapter.

What else does this little laptop have. It does have the new 802.11n ability (more range and speed) but I hear it is more of a beta test so the speeds aren't as guaranteed yet but I haven't tried out on any other routers except the 802.11g. For the most part, I also enjoy the mouse's ability to expand and the shrink the view of the screen with the use of two fingers (spread out two fingers on the track pad to expand and put them together to shrink the screen).

Another cool thing that this computer has is that you can change the speed (which changes the battery life also) of the net book via the Super Hybrid Engine that goes from 900Mhz to 1.66GHz to 1.9GHz).

Problems or disappoints now… I would have to say that the biggest turnoff of net books is that they lack an optical drive so as I said before, if you need to use a DVD or CD, you will have to get an external one but I have really only use it once. The screen really isn't big enough to watch movie a lot unless you are traveling. I do like to hook this up and streaming movies onto my big screen TV via VGA and sound cord (sorry… no HDMI…which is the ONLY reason I thought against getting this).

Oh yea and I said I really hadn't any problems because I couldn't the F9 recovery option to work because my computer was locking up at one point so I got an external DVD drive to load the DVD recovery disk.

Last point…this is the higher model of the three 1005ha's…I have the top one which is the 1005ha-p (premium) and the 1005ha-v (value) is the middle one while the 1005ha-b (best buy edition) is the lower one.

Below are the differences of the three 1005ha's…at least the ones I notice.

1005ha-p specs that the others don't have (includes 1005ha-v and 1005ha-b specs too)

- N280 Processor (1.66GHz but can be over clocked to 1.9GHz or under clocked to 900MHz)

- 1.3MB Camera (some places have shown that the 1005ha-v has this but IDK

- I also got a free computer sleeve with mine and its pretty nice and says “Eee”

All this for a pretty decent price! I also own a 1005ha-b and just wish it had a bigger battery so you can see that I thought highly of them. Heck, it will be out most net books and all laptops that I know of in battery life with its wifi on…without wifi on, its demolishes the competition!

When you run into the problem of having a broken laptop monitor you will be no doubt frustrated because you will not be able to do anything on your laptop computer. The thing that you can do for your broken laptop monitor is to use an external laptop monitor. It will take away the portable feature of your laptop but you will be able to use the laptop computer with an external laptop monitor.

Most of the time it is an easy task to use an external laptop monitor. All you have to do is buy a VGA cord from your local computer store. Many PC monitors for desktop use the same cord. The problem with those cords is that there are so many of them that use a VGA cord that is made into the monitor, so it can't be removed. In that case, you will still have to buy a VGA cord if you want to use an external laptop monitor for your broken laptop monitor. When you plug up your laptop to an external laptop monitor you should be able to see what would've been on the broken laptop monitor. If you don't then you will a few more steps to do to get a picture.

Most laptops have a variety of functions that will allow you to do certain things at the press of a button. These keys are activated by using the function button that is usually labeled FN. If you have an HP laptop then the button that you are looking for is F4. That is the button that needs to be pressed in conjunction with the FN button to switch a broken laptop monitor to an external laptop monitor. It is a different key and a different picture depending on what type of laptop you have. For example, if you are using a Toshiba Satellite laptop then the button that you are looking for will probably be F5. You have to press the F5 key with the FN key to switch to an external laptop monitor if you're using a Toshiba laptop. If that doesn't work then you will have to boot your laptop up in safe mode so that the resolution is set to a default one. This will allow any monitor to show the display of the laptop in an external laptop monitor provided that the external laptop monitor is actually working.

On the other hand, Mac notebook computers have more bug-free security systems available, such as Spyware tools, Anti-Virus software, phishing components and the like. Will PC notebook computers offer the same software, there are many problems and bugs that you will not find with identical Mac software.

So you’ve heard how much better video will look in the xvYCC color space and are set to drop $33.000 on the Sony Bravia KDL-70XBR3 70-inch LCD TV when it ships in May. But what will you play on it? Most likely home movies recorded with the Sony Handycam HDR-HC7 or its little brother Good Hublot. the HDR-HC5. the first camcorders available to support xvYCC. However. even if you’re not quite ready to plunk down that much cash for a TV. the more modestly priced HC7 will still deliver a great home movie experience.

In fact Replica Bulgari. it’s impossible to know how the new color space. branded “x.v.Color” by Sony. will actually fare; though the HC7 can record it. no device can display the video properly as yet. Absent that distinction. the HC7 simply continues the tradition of Sony’s excellent series of consumer HDV camcorders. In contrast to the HC5. a dial on the HC7 lets you assign one shooting adjustment setting–manual focus. exposure compensation/exposure shift. white balance shift (toward red or blue). and shutter speed–to control via the rather slippery dial. And the HC7 supplies a microphone input and headphone jack.
